Sawtooth National Forest, Idaho
Why It's Cool: The Smoky Mountains (part of the Rocky Mountains) are so steep and majestic, they look like a vista straight out of Europe—especially in the summertime when the wildflowers speckle the scenic views with splashes of color.
Where to Camp: There's a laundry list of campgrounds, but we recommend the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, specifically at Redfish Lake.
When It's Open: The Sawtooth National Recreation Area is open year-round with peak time during the summer months. Plan your camping trip between May and September, and you'll enjoy extra-long days with the sun setting as late as 10 p.m.
